Scams Impacting Seniors

Published On: August 8, 2022

Ms. Joan Campbell, Community Affairs Coordinator, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, spoke to us at our August 3rd Luncheon about Scams impacting on Seniors which included misrepresentations/impersonation from:

  1. Banking
  2. Companies like Walmart, Costco, Amazon, and various computer related companies
  3. Law enforcement agencies of all levels
  4. Romance offered services

She cautioned all to be very wary of anyone asking for any personal identification or personal information and to use these Preventative Measurers:

  1. Do create strong passwords and change them from time to time
  2. Don’t use public wi-fi
  3. Do set privacy settings on social media
  4. Do watch and review your bank statements and other accounts including utilities
  5. Do NOT click on unknown links in text messages or emails
  6. Don’t press any numbers on phone calls … including press those to “take you off promo lists” … as the result is to actually add you to their promo lists which they then sell
  7. Do Back Up your valuable documents
