Scams Impacting Seniors
Ms. Joan Campbell, Community Affairs Coordinator, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, spoke to us at our August 3rd Luncheon about Scams impacting on Seniors which included misrepresentations/impersonation from:
- Banking
- Companies like Walmart, Costco, Amazon, and various computer related companies
- Law enforcement agencies of all levels
- Romance offered services
She cautioned all to be very wary of anyone asking for any personal identification or personal information and to use these Preventative Measurers:
- Do create strong passwords and change them from time to time
- Don’t use public wi-fi
- Do set privacy settings on social media
- Do watch and review your bank statements and other accounts including utilities
- Do NOT click on unknown links in text messages or emails
- Don’t press any numbers on phone calls … including press those to “take you off promo lists” … as the result is to actually add you to their promo lists which they then sell
- Do Back Up your valuable documents
