Kiwanis Club of Carefree Meeting – July 20, 2021

“Volunteerism is Fulfilled at Kiwanis. Come Be One of us!”

It was a happening at Harold’s, the second Wednesday of the month for lunch, as 40 Kiwanis members gathered to enjoy each other’s company and be brought up to speed on club activities. And there is plenty going on.

You may know a group who has benefited from Kiwanis, like the Cave Creek Museum, or a student who was the recipient of one of their scholarships. Money in the pocket requires a future commitment. Bob Swan of the Funds Appropriation Committee explained how those supported activities receiving grants confirm that the funds will be used in compliance with their application requests. Bob has been part of an Accountability Committee that follows up with everyone and checks on the activity funding. As Ronald Reagan once said, “Trust but verify.”

With 21 new members since October, Steve Morse, chairman of the Membership Committee, along with the assistance of his team, has been busy with introductions, inductions and setting them up in the Partner Program (headed by John Dionne) so that they can quickly meet other members and find just the right volunteer position for their skills and interests. But it doesn’t stop there. Steve reminded all that while recruiting is important, so is retention. And the Membership, joined with the Communication Committee, are keeping the connection by expanding their branding with new school scoreboards and banners, new ads, and social media.

If you have an urge to volunteer and make an impact while being rewarded at the same time, Kiwanis extends an invitation, “Come be one of us!” And if you get on board for the next meeting, you just might win our 50:50 drawing!
