Kiwanis July Blood Drive Exceeds Goal by 128%!
Once again, Kiwanis President Elect, Kimberly Marie Jack and Kiwanis Member Casey Jack donated the use of their Anytime Fitness Facility for the July 27th Blood Drive which ran from 8:30 until 1:30. Kiwanis members, president, Mike Poppenwimer, facilities manager, Geno Orrico, Alexis Sterling-Popovich, event chair, and committee person, Jacqui Perry Brown did the room set up for the event.
The Kiwanis Blood Drive brought 23 Donors, including a number of Kiwanis Members, to the event, so many thanks to the local community for this successful contribution to the vital Blood Drive Collection Program.
Vitalant is the non-profit community blood provider that hosted the Blood Draw Event. Vitalant supplies blood to 90% of Arizona hospitals and 100% of those in Maricopa County.
They provided 3 technical people to schedule, screen and draw the blood along with a complete blood draw array of equipment filling a space of 30 by 40 feet.
All successful blood donations from the drive are being tested for COVID-19 antibodies. An authorized Food and Drug Administration test, it indicates if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the virus, regardless of whether they ever showed symptoms. The antibody test is NOT a way to find out if you are currently infected with this virus. While a positive antibody test does not mean that someone is immune to COVID-19, it does mean that they may be eligible to donate convalescent plasma and help people who are still recovering from corona virus infection.
