2022 Annual Scholarship Awards Program
This event will take place on May 9th, at 6pm, at the Cave Creek School District’s Fine Arts Center located at 33606 N. 60th Street, in Scottsdale, AZ.
Janet Busbee, Chair of the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee, and the Kiwanis Club and Foundation of Carefree is happy to invite our Membership, the School Staff and Teachers, and the Community to our Annual Scholarship Awards Program.
The Scholarship Committee is composed of:

- Scott Brown
- Maria Elena Rizzo
- Susan Uhl
This year we will be awarding over $350,000 in Scholarships to local students in the community!
Kiwanis Club of Carefree Scholarship Awards will be given to 32 local high school seniors, made up of:
- 16 students with Four Year scholarships,
- 2 students with Two Year scholarships, and
- 14 Merit Awards given in the areas of Key Club, Math, Science, Athletic, Art & Humanities and Foreign Language.
Three, designated Four Year Scholarships will be given as follows:
- The William Rockford “Personal Achievement” Award, Mr. Rockford is a private donor (and Kiwanis member) to the Scholarship Fund, and we award this scholarship to a deserving student per his request.
- The Jim Shaw “Community Service” Award, Mr. Shaw was a long time Kiwanis Club of Carefree member serving on community projects, and we honor his memory with this award.
- The Rick Heiken “Kiwanis Club / Key Club” Award, Mr. Heiken was a long-time member of the Kiwanis Club of Carefree, serving as the Club President in 2018 – 2019. Mr. Heiken was instrumental in scholarship funding and was a driving force behind organizing the Kiwanis Youth Clubs at the local elementary, middle and high school. We honor his memory with this award.
Our Invocation will be given by Mr. Jerone Davison, Pastor, author and former ASU and NFL running back.
Our Keynote Speaker, is Mr. A. C. Caswell, who has a history of philanthropic involvement demonstrating his commitment to improving the lives of children. He is a dedicated supporter of the Boys and Girls Club, the Rise and Dream Foundation, ChildHelp and the Athletes International Ministry, just to name a few.
